Gertrude P. Burgers,69, of Doon died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Protestant Reformed Church, with Rev. Richard Smit officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Doon. Visitation will be today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Hon Rock Valley, Iowa.
Mrs. Burgers was born on Feb. 28, 1930, at Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Maas and Hermina (Zommermaand)Van Beek. She married Dick Burgers Jr. on Oct.23, 1951 at Sioux Center, Iowa. They lived near Rock Valley and later farmed near Ireton alvord, Iowa. The couple moved to Doon in 1995. She was a member of the Doon Protestant Reformed Church and the Martha Society.
Survivors include her husband; four children and their spouses, Celia and Rod Heckathorn of Orange City,Iowa, Helen and John Vlastuin of Inwood,Iowa Dennis and Lorelei Burgers of Hull, Iowa, and Mary and Floyd Van Den Top of Alvord; 14 granddren, Sharon and Brenda Heckathorn, Glenda, James, and Jason Vlastuin, Amy Van Der Brink,Danielle, Larissa, Dana, and Derk Burgers, Kenneth, Richard, Lisa, and Marias Van Den Top; and a brother and his wife, Egbert and JoAnn Van Beek of Sioux City Center, Iowa
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Albert Van Beek; a sister and brother-in-law Nellie and William Middendorp; and two grandsons, Daniel Heckathorn and an infant son of John and Helen Viastuin.
